This is a Season 3 sport, so it normally takes place between January and March.

Season Flow

Practice

"Practice makes perfect."

Practice for wrestling will take place every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from the beginning of the season until meets start.

Once meets begin, practices will only occur on non-meet days for the duration of the season.

As with all sports and club activities, there will be no official practice on early release Wednesdays.

Practice begins at about 2:30 pm and will conclude by about 4:05 pm. Please arrange for transportation home or use the activity bus.

It is expected that athletes be at all practices unless prior communication takes place. All athletes who have met the eight-practice requirement will be allowed to compete in games.

Meets

Season and Meet Information

There are six meets and two tournaments planned in the season for wrestling. There are three styles of meet, Jamborees, Three School Dual Meets, and Two School Meets:

Jamboree
- The first two meets of the season are this style and they are designed to allow wrestlers to get experience
- Referees are present and matches are scored, but none of the results are official
- Matches are three one-minute rounds (1:00)
  - A pin does not end the match, and the full three minutes are completed
- Student athletes can expect to wrestle two to four times at a Jamboree
  - Student athletes must take a 15-minute break between matches
- The format of the Jamboree can vary based on the host school
  - Example: Leota Middle School ran three full size mats
  - Example: Canyon Park Middle School ran four matches by dividing two mats diagonally
Three School Meet
- These meets consist of a host school and two guest schools
- The host school prepares two mats, one is used for Varsity and the other for Junior Varsity
- The teams of Varsity wrestlers from the host school and one guest school first, then after a short break the teams from the host school and the other guest school compete
  - Each match is scored by a referee, and will end instantly with a pin or a 15 match point difference
  - Teams score points as follows when their wrestler wins:
    - 6 points for a pin or a forfeit from the other team
    - 5 points for a technical fall (15 or more point difference during match)
    - 4 points for major decision (8 to 14 point difference at end of match)
    - 3 points for a win by regular decision (7 point or less difference at end of match)
  - The team with the most points is the winner of the match.
- Junior Varsity (JV) wrestlers from all three schools will wrestle each other
  - While there are no team points in JV, it is a great place to gain experience and get in a lot of matches
Two School Meet
- This is ran almost exactly like a Three School Meet, with the only difference being that there are only two schools
  - Depending on the school size only one mat may be used for all matches

Once seeds have been determined at a special meeting tournaments for both JV and Varsity follow to conclude the season.

Meets tend to run from about 4:15 to 6:30 pm. Please be sure that all student athletes remain at the meet until it concludes.

Just like with practice, members of the wrestling team are expected to attend meets unless prior communication takes place.

Transportation

For meets held at Timbercrest students should remain at school for warmups and last minute strategy changes.

Buses will be provided to transport students to meets held at other schools. Please be ready to board the buses by 3:15 pm!

At the conclusion of both home and away meets students will need to arrange for transportation home.

Practice Good Sportsmanship

Though it is a competition, it is important to practice good sportsmanship at all meets.

Refrain from "trash talk".
Express appreciation toward your competitors whether you are the host or visitor.
Don't be a sore loser or a sore winner.
Winning means nothing if you lose off of the mat by being disrespectful or disruptive.

3/1/19 - Timbercrest and Kenmore @ Leota - Jamboree

As a jamboree, this event was designed to bring wrestlers together and give everyone a chance to get a good feel for competition and how it feels to actually be out on the mat. For this reason there are no official results to report...

That said, the Timbercrest team did an amazing job at the Jamboree, with many members winning rounds by five or more points and there were also quite a few pins. Several wrestlers took part in four matches and there were even some friendly Wolf on Wolf bouts. Everyone should be really proud of their performance!

3/5/19 - Timbercrest and Kenmore @ Canyon Park - Jamboree

This event was originally scheduled for February 12th, but it was postponed due to the snow.

Canyon Park used an interesting system in which the mats were divided diagonally to allow for four matches to occur simultaneously.

Our very own Coach Myers stepped up to handle some refereeing, and we hope that everyone was able to get in lots of matches!

This was the final jamboree, so future meets will have official scoring.

3/8/19 - Timbercrest and Northshore @ Skyview

Result: SMS 51 - TMS 45

This was our first dual meet and the team did an amazing job!

On the JV mat we had some wins and losses and it was great that some wrestlers were able to enjoy more than one match!
Cooper, Ella, and Emmy all enjoyed wins in at least one of their matches!

In Varsity we came so close to winning, and we are sure to do great things in the next meet!

3/12/19 - Canyon Park and Kenmore @ Timbercrest

With this being a home meet Timbercrest was able to wrestle both schools!

Before getting into results, we would like to thank the student volunteers from Woodinville High School and our parent volunteers. Without their help the meet would not have been even half the success it was!

Varsity Result: CPMS 48 - TMS 36

Up against Canyon Park we suffered some early losses and the score line reached an oppressive 0 - 42 in favor of the Knights. The Wolves were down, but never out. Pin after pin came for our side and we almost managed to tie things up.

While this was yet another close loss against a great team, a lot of our team was still recovering from illness or out sick so we know better things lie ahead!

Varsity Result: TMS 87 - KMS 6

Unfortunately for Kenmore, they also had a lot of wrestlers out sick and with the forfeits from both sides the score started at 42 - 6. While it was great to be up, this meant that a lot of Timbercrest wrestlers did not get to take part in matches and it couldn't have been fun for the Colts to start so far down.

In the matches that could occur the Wolves were on fire and won every single one to claim our first victory! While it was great to win, we would have liked to have a full set of matches against Kenmore so the score could have started at 0-0.

Junior Varsity

First, we need to thank the coach from Kenmore, as he handled all the refereeing on the JV mat due to a missing referee.

There is not much to say other than the Timbercrest JV wrestlers were unstoppable and won every match! While there is no official scoring in JV, it is easy to say that the Wolves won the day on the JV mat!

3/15/19 - Timbercrest and Canyon Park @ Northshore

Varsity Result: TMS 61 - NMS 22

Although Canyon Park was back again, this was a match against only Northshore for the Varsity team.

Illness also continued to rule the day, as both teams had a lot of wrestlers out sick, and only nine matches were able to be held. The many forfeits increased the score line, but even without these points the Wolves did a great job and won five of the nine matches that were able to be held!

Junior Varsity

Once again the JV team was on fire! We won almost every match and everyone did an amazing job!

3/19/19 - Leota @ Timbercrest

Varsity Results: LMS 58 - TMS 30

It was great to have a team at nearly full strength as we went into the final meet of the season.

There were a lot of close matches early on, but sadly the points kept ending up on the wrong side of the scoreboard as Leota gave us a great fight.

We never give up at Timbercrest and began to mount a comeback midway through the weight classes, but sadly the Lions ruled the day.

It was shame to lose at home, but as long as everyone learned something that they can use to be a better wrestler then the evening was still worthwhile!

Junior Varsity and Exhibition

With this being just a two school meet there was lots of time to put the JV wrestlers on display. We only set up one mat, so these great athletes got to experience announcing and being up on the scoreboard.

There was a lot of back and forth as the JVs put on some really exciting matches for the crowd.

Once the Varsity matches concluded both Varsity and JVs returned to the mat for 10 additional matches. Timbercrest didn't fair quite so well, but we did see our first OT of the season where an unstoppable Wolf held out to win in sudden death!

3/22/19 - JV Tournament

Varsity Tournament Results: 4th place with 2 class champions

This tournament consisted of eight person brackets for each weight class. Wrestlers that won all matches were the champions of the weight class, while wrestlers that lost in the first round could still claim third place.

Timbercrest wrestlers gave their best and put on some amazing displays as the Wolves appeared in four finals and claimed two of the top spots!
